President Buhari's New year message to Nigerians

Read below...
Welcome to the beginning of a New Year of the continuation of CHANGE in our beloved nation. I am aware that Nigerians have experienced a number of significant hardships over the past months. Living in the State House has not alienated me from your daily sufferings. I am aware of the lengthy queues at fuel stations and of the difficulties businesses have faced in acquiring foreign exchange.

These challenges are only temporary; we are working to make things better. When I presented myself to you as a presidential candidate and asked you to vote for me, I wanted to be a leader who keeps his promises. I wanted to be a leader who restores the people's hope in those elected to serve them. I wanted to be a leader who initiates positive and enduring CHANGE.

President Buhari's New year message to Nigerians

I am still totally committed to being that kind of leader. Unforeseen circumstances and other distractions notwithstanding, I shall still do my utmost best to keep every promise I made to Nigerians during my election campaign. In the past seven months since our inauguration on May 29, 2015, my administration has focused on laying the right foundation for the CHANGE you voted for during our historic presidential election. Nigerians will in due course begin to enjoy the fruits of all our ongoing work.

The effective and efficient implementation of our 2016 budget proposals will address many of the socio-economic issues that are of current concern to our people. One area in which Nigerians, especially those in the northeast, have already begun to experience major CHANGE is in the war on terror. I commend our Armed Forces for significantly curtailing the insurgency which has ravaged the northeast of Nigeria over the past few years.

However, there is still a lot of work to be done in the area of security. Our Armed Forces will maintain, consolidate and build on their successes in the war against Boko Haram and violent extremism. This government will not consider the matter concluded until the terrorists have been completely routed and normalcy restored to all parts of the country that have been adversely affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Our crackdown on corruption will continue to be vigorously undertaken. I urge the courts to support our efforts and help in the recovery of stolen funds by speedily concluding trials and showing that impunity no longer has a place in our country.

There is much work to do in other areas as well and I have charged all my ministers and other appointees to ensure that Nigerians experience positive changes in their lives in 2016. We must reduce our country's reliance on oil. We must diversify our economy.

And we must do all we can to promote job creation. Our challenges are many but our determination to succeed is strong and unshaken. So too is our confidence in God. I wish you all a very

Happy New Year From
MUHAMMADU BUHARI

Appeal Court sacks Abia Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, declares APGA’s Alex Otti winner

The Court of Appeal, sitting in Owerri, has removed Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party as governor of Abia State.

The court also declared Alex Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance  the winner of the April 11 and April 25 supplementary elections in the state.

Delivering judgment in an appeal filed by Mr. Otti, the five-member panel, headed by Justice Oyebisi Omoleye, said the APGA candidate scored 164, 444 valid votes to defeat Mr. Ikpeazu who scored 114, 444 votes.

Appeal Court sacks Abia Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, declares APGA’s Alex Otti winner

The court declared that Mr. Otti was the winner of the April 11 and April 25 supplementary elections in Abia.

Justice Omoleye said the cancellation of the elections held in three LGAs of Obingwa, Osisioma Ngwa and Isiala Ngwa by the returning officers after the results were uploaded to INEC was wrong.
“In the Electoral Act, the Returning Officer has the right to only declare results of elections and not to cancel elections.

“This panel discovered that the earlier results uploaded to INEC headquarters correspond with the correct valid registered voters in the three LGAs, while that awarded to the respondent shows over voting and therefore null and void.’’

Justice Omoleye had while reviewing preliminary objections and issues raised by both parties, struck out the preliminary objections by Mr. Ikpeazu’s counsel to the effect that the appeal lacked merit.
The court also turned down the objection raised by the PDP that the members of the panel were wrongfully constituted and affirmed the arguments of Mr. Otti’s counsel.

The appellate court maintained that the lower tribunal erred by not handling all the issues raised before it on their merit.

“It was wrong for the court below to insist that because the appellant failed to appear in person, his matter will not be given due attention.

“For not appearing in person, the first appellant did not abandon his case,” she said.
The court insisted that there was no need to call for re-run because the results of the April 11 and 25 polls clearly present Mr. Otti as the genuine winner of the exercise.

The court therefore directed INEC to issue Certificate of Return to Mr. Otti and swear him in as winner of the Abia Governorship election.

In his reaction to the judgment, Oracle Nwali, a lawyer in Mr. Otti’s legal team, described the victory as “an end of the year gift to APGA”, saying Mr. Otti would not disappoint Abia people.
On his part, Charles Esonu, the PDP secretary in Abia, said the party and its candidate would study the judgment and decide on the next line of action.

Mr. Otti had proceeded to the Court of Appeal after the Abia tribunal gave its judgment on November 3, saying the PDP validly won the election.

In that 85-minute judgment, delivered by its Chairman, Usman Bwala, the tribunal said  the petitioners – Mr. Otti and APGA – failed to prove their claim to have won the election ‘’beyond doubt”.

Mr. Bwala said the petitioners had, on one hand urged the court to nullify the election on grounds that it was marred by irregularities and massive fraud and on the other hand, sought that they should be declared winners of the same election.

He said the petitioners reckoned with the card reader as a means of accreditation during the election of April 11 but failed to agree with use of voter’s register.

The tribunal further refused to grant the petitioners’ request to uphold the cancellation of the results of the election in Obingwa, Osisioma and Isiala-Ngwa North Local Government Areas of the state.

Mr. Bwala said the State Returning Officer, Benjamin Ozumba, was not allowed under the law, to cancel the said results in the first place, hence the subsequent reversal by him had no effect.
He said the onus lay heavily on the petitioners to prove beyond doubt that they won the election as they claimed in their petition.

The tribunal chairman, therefore, dismissed the petition because of the failure of the petitioners to convince the tribunal beyond doubt that they won the election.

Mr. Otti had urged the tribunal to annul the declaration of Mr. Ikpeazu as governor, saying the election was marred by irregularities and substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
He, however, urged the tribunal to declare him (Otti) the winner on account of the lawful votes cast during the election.

He also asked the tribunal to uphold Mr. Ozumba’s cancellation of the results for Obingwa, Osisioma and Isiala-Ngwa North LGAs.
He said that Ozumba, having cancelled the results, did not have the power to cancel the result and reverse himself, adding that only the tribunal had the power to reverse the cancellation.

After seeing this photo this morning i was happy and sad. First i was sad because of the condition this little girl is into. Everyone walking and working for a living but here she is unable to move or work. And i was happy because she might be a victim of misfortune but she is better than those that lost their lives in 2016, She can breathe and talk, that means one thing. There is hope.

Appeal Court Upturns Mama Taraba’s (APC) Victory And Declares Ishaku (PDP) Winner

A court of appeal sitting in Abuja on Thursday, December 31, upturned the decision of the Taraba state election tribunal which declared the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Aisha Alhassan the winner of the Taraba governorship election.

The court decided in favor of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku, ruling that Ishaku’s nomination by the PDP could not be questioned by a non-member of the party.

Appeal Court Upturns Mama Taraba’s Victory

The Justice Danladi Abubakar-led tribunal had on November 7 sacked the Peoples Democratic Party’s Ishaku and declared All Progressives Congress’ Aisha Alhassan the winner.

But Governor Darius Ishaku, who expressed confidence in holding on to his position, following the possibility of going to the poll for a third time, filed an appeal asking the court to set it the judgement of the state tribunal aside.

Ahead of today’s judgment, on December 21, the Justice Abdul Aboki-led five-man bench of the appeal court heard three appeals and a cross-appeal by the APC.

Below are our updates from the court ruling:

15:19 Ishaku wins the appeal.

15:18 Declaring Alhassan/APC winner of the poll by tribunal violates section 140(2) of Electoral Act is null and void.

15:17 “It was a gross misdirection on the part of the tribunal to have declared APC/Alhassan as the winner.”

15:07 This tribunal is like a football match: two issues are in favour of the APC, two are in favour of the PDP.

15:02 Issue 5 is resolved against APC/Alhassan, however, the justice is back to issue 4 (whether the tribunal has power to declare APC/Alhassan the winner even after disqualifying PDP/Ishaku).

14:50 Issue 5 is in progress.

14:30 Appeal Court: – APC/Alhassan has no locus standi to complain about the improper conduct of PDP’s primary; – The only participant in a primary can complain about its improper conduct; – The issue of conduct of primary cannot be subject of dispute for adjudication by election petition tribunal.

14:03 Third issue is in process. A correspondent of The Punch reports on ground:

Alhassan, who is fondly called Mama Taraba, is currently serving as the minister of women affairs after being nominated and sworn in by President Muhammadu Buhari. If she secures the Taraba governorship seat, she would become Nigeria’s first female governor elect.

A New Mindset for a New Year

William Shakespeare wrote that “all the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players.” How we define the parts we play shapes the daily drama of our lives. Are we puppets, dancing to someone else’s tune or actors with a dynamic sense of agency, creating new possibilities in our lives?

A New Mindset for a New Year
William Shakespeare
Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck has found that our sense of self and our success in life are related to our “mindset.” People with a “set mindset” are stuck in the status quo, believing that their intelligence cannot be changed, while those with a “growth mindset” believe that their intelligence increases as they embrace new challenges.

Neuroscience research affirms a growth mindset, for our brains develop throughout our lives, growing new neural connections in response to stimulation. If you cannot use a new computer program or play a musical instrument today, regular practice will stimulate your brain to develop new connections. And after a series of clumsy attempts, suddenly one day it all comes together: you can do it. Stimulated by all that effort, your brain has formed new connections.

The two mindsets have appeared throughout history. In the Renaissance, both Martin Luther and John Calvin believed that all people had vocations. But Luther saw the world as set, with the social order created by God. if your father was a butcher, a baker, or glove maker, you were destined to follow his trade.  Calvin looked at the social injustice around him and concluded that not God, but human beings had constructed the social order. He encouraged people to find their vocations by discovering their talents and using them to create new possibilities. With this growth mindset, a glove maker’s son from Stratford found his calling on the London stage as William Shakespeare.

A New Mindset for a New Year

One view of life is dynamic, the other static; one mindset leads to conformity, the other to creative change.  The 18th century gave rise to two views of patriotism: 1. obedience to the status quo or 2. ideals that led to a new form of government, moving from monarchy to democracy, government of the people under a new constitution.

We can also find growth and set mindsets in our work. Recently, when I questioned a longstanding policy, some people at work said “but we’ve always done it that way.” Yet just because we’ve done something for years doesn’t make it right or rule out better alternatives. If our country had followed a set mindset, there would be no progress, no airplanes, electricity, phones, or computers; women couldn’t vote and some people would still be slaves.

Progress—in science, art, politics, and life—flows from a growth mindset.

How can you apply a growth mindset to the year ahead?

Femi Fani-Kayode - The Bewitching Hour

It is 3 a.m. in the morning: the time that is commonly referred to as the bewitching hour. This is the moment that darkness and silence stalks the land. This is the moment that is pregnant with fear, uncertainty and mystery.

This is the moment that evil is undone and that witches return home from their blood-drenched covens. This is the moment that hearts beat fast and that sensitive ears tingle at the slightest sound.

Femi Fani-Kayode - The Bewitching Hour
Femi Fani-Kayode

I love the stillness of this sacred hour. I love the power of the darkest morning and the blackest night. I love that bewitching moment when darkness gives way to light.  It banishes inhibitions and it kindles passion.
It heightens sensitivity and it excites the human spirit. It purifies the inner man and it sharpens the inner voice. It brings communion with God and it strengthens the soul. It stirs creativity and it brings peace.

O that that peace would last and that that beautiful stillness and silence would persist. It brings strength, empowerment and clarity of thought and vision.

It brings insight, a refreshing and it makes all things beautiful. It soothes troubled souls and it brings joy to broken hearts. It kindles love and it invokes unimaginable pleasures and secret desires.

It is at such times that the most crucial decisions can safely be made. It is in such moments that we can worship  our God with passion and reckless abandon. It is at that time that monsters run, that demons flee and that angels dance.

It is at that moment that the Spirit of the Lord  raises His standard and stems the flood. It is at that time that Gods redemptive power brings hope and restoration. It is at that moment that He raises His banner of power and love.

It is at that time that silence whispers and that we hear Him clearly. I love the stillness of this sacred hour. I love the power of the darkest morning and the blackest night. I love that bewitching moment when darkness gives way to light.

75% of Fuel in Nigeria Will Still Be Imported in 2016 - NNPC

Group Managing Director NNPC and Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, during his tour of Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company, KRPC, yesterday, said the country will still rely on 75 per cent importation of fuel throughout the whole of next year.

According to him:
“The future is that, Nigeria is still going to import fuel in 2016 and beyond. Best case situation is 25 per cent local and 75 per cent importation. Worse case is what we are experiencing now.
“Until we begin to get individuals who can co-relocate, we are going to be doing a mixture of local and importation of fuel to meet up demands. In the next few weeks, however, queues will disappear in fuel stations.”The minister said that the Kaduna refinery will soon be producing more than two million litres per day capacity as soon as an Fluid Catalytic Cracking, FCC, unit is fully on stream.
He said:
“We need to get it back to re-kit it to work well. We will do that with some level of production going on. Our concern is to have a consistent production and provision of products at all times.”
“We will not be fluctuating prices, we will take an average. Today no subsidy, in January we will look at the situation and announce it.”
In regards to privatization, he said:
President Muhammadu Buhari has not approved any policy about selling the refineries.” - says Vanguard

Uju Chukwu: Your Mind is a Power Tool

The thoughts in your head are a reflection of what your mouth says. How powerful can our thoughts be? Very very powerful. Has it ever happened that you thought of something, without having the intention of seeing it happen and the next minute you see it happen? Sometimes it might not be as fast as a minute; you might have gone for hours and the next thing you see, it happens. Most times, people even mistake it for a dejavu, but then it is just your thoughts.
Uju Chukwu: Your Mind is a Power Tool

So if your thoughts can be this powerful, what then are we supposed to do? It’s pretty simple, guard them right.
We need to think positive at all times. How does that work? It is a conscious effort. I will list 2 major points of the conscious effort we have to make:
By minding the things you let get into your head: Everybody has something to say, (the good, the bad, the ugly and the worse) but not everything everyone has to say is for you. You do not necessarily have to open up your mind to digest everything or every word that passes because some are for you and some are for others. Sometimes you intentionally avoid being in the conversation.
I read a billboard one day and I noticed that the pastor of my church was going to visit a different church. I had been to that church and I did not really like it there, and then I saw that the pastor of my church was going there. A few of my friends said, “now you have to be there because your pastor is there” I replied, “I would not be there because my pastor is going to be there. That which I do not like about the church might just automatically get at me even when my pastor is speaking. So to avoid myself the power of negative thoughts I chose to avoid going because the program he is going to attend will be for him to speak the word for someone in that congregation and definitely not for me.”
There was nothing was obviously stopping me, but was it going to be my word? Not so sure of that.
So it is a conscious effort for us to mind the things we allow to get into our head. Sometimes, you play deaf or better still avoid it completely.
Mind the things we see: The things we look at or study affect how we think and automatically affect how we speak. Our minds get to store images faster than even words. Just like a child, the ability of an image to affect our thought is about 75%. However, what differentiates an adult from a child is the ability of owning up and deciding not to look in that direction – unlike a child where you have to help them watch what they see. Not every book, article or pictures is for our consumption; most times we need to take in things that enlighten us and energize us to move on. Imagine having to watch the news every day and you keep seeing people dying in various countries, the ability for you not to live in fear will be very low.
I actually lost the love for travelling after hearing consecutively on the news the number of plane crashes reported. But does that mean that people do not fly and land safely? The image I have seen and that which I have heard, I let it sink in. Now I try to avoid the TV as much as I can.
If you think of a big future, why not live in that light and look for images that portray same. Rather than watch the TV, I would rather go on YouTube and watch Awesomeness fest. It is an image I am seeing but a different one.

How do we effectively work on our mind?

We should constantly apply the rule of meditation. Learn to meditate. It is the best form of clearing our minds and our thoughts. Maybe you have let in the wrong things; with effective meditation, you have the ability to sieve your thoughts.

Think before you speak, not the other way round. Think first put your words together and then let them out. Consider if the words you speak will make or mar you. Will they make people see you as someone else and will your words make a difference in the lives of those around you in a positive way or cause destruction? These are factors we need to consider.

Learn to put your thoughts first before your words.

Are you willing to take action today? Are you willing to take control of your thoughts, mind what you see and things you hear?
Leave your comments below on how your mind has helped or improved you as a person or your speech to others.

Tolu Falode: The Stranger She Once Loved

Some women sit silently in a house of pain afraid to open the door of possibility, afraid to face the breath of blessings waiting and pounding with the wind on the door. They stay clattered, constrained, confused in a space of familiarity as they face the pain and internal disaster that comes from walking with a partner that does not provide comfort, shelter, peace, prosperity but instead gives pain, pressure, doubt, distraction-all because they are afraid of that door.

They stare at it sure enough-they stare at it and dream of the possibilities on the other side –what could happen if I ventured outside she silently wonders? She has no clue about the cost of her constraint on her true worth-value diminished in a house of dust, cobwebs clinging to walls of whispered promises that never weave into actions of warmth.

But she still sits, waiting and hoping for some change-some chance to clean this house up again-misunderstanding there is no path for answers in the dirt road of disaster. In settling for less, she compromised herself-she threw away a chance to have the best. In life’s tests-wherever you sit, wherever you choose to stand-look around your environment-it will show you the truth through objectivity-an infected bond suffers from disease at its core.

It could be as a simple as a couple of words spoken in confirmation when you know truly, its not enough-to a friend, a partner, a colleague or even to yourself-because even we sometimes try to lie to our conscience of what we truly want.

But the most usual form this desperation comes from, is when you settle for less than what you deserve in a relationship that has taken so much from you. When you fail to realize value is not meant to be hidden behind constant wounds of daily debates about feelings, answers, promises unkempt, words woven into lies that once rang with the comforting bell of truth-she listens for that sound as she looks at you-she wonders what has changed, she debates with her thoughts, silently trying to explain to herself before-the strong woman she used to be, the one with vision, the one who could see so clearly her worth-that its all worth it, it’ll change eventually-but her past self starts fading before her very eyes-and it scares her so deeply because now she can no longer hide from the lies.

She no longer knows herself-she no longer recognizes her voice-friends see the desperation in her eyes-a silent cry for help-maybe a hand raised in violence has grazed her cheek once more, as she pats it away with some powder, lying with each dab to her heart’s silent beating drum-to leave this place of pain, to step through that door and see what awaits her, to take away from her present place of torture, resentment, uncertainty, defeat.

But women have this strong ability to cling; combined with a maternal instinct to feed and nurture and provide for needs, it becomes a dangerous weapon she stabs herself with-over and over she feels the pain but still fails to walk away-she has paralyzed her legs with delay.

Addicted to this twisted form of love’s true face-she is confused about what her heart really means when it screams-because you see-she has become so used to the pain-she does not understand what it means. Words of courage have decreased in her vocabulary. She does not see, it is time to leave. She has become so used to the lies, she believes they are truths spoken from a mouth that holds no power to hide behind such vile views. She has become so blinded in this darkness she has adjusted to its light-and through its burdensome blight, has become crippled with expectations that don’t even exist-they are all a façade-but she cannot see because she has spent too long in this house, too long sat in a position of defeat. And so she resists the urge to change her ways-she resists the urge to speak. She silently cowers before his breath-afraid of its sting. She lies to herself consistently until her conscience loses its willingness to speak-even it has given up in defeat.

In this place, only she can remove the veil-only she has the power to see-but she fails to answer that inner voice that speaks from within-an intuition women are gifted with-a sense of knowing that our hearts speak even before our eyes are graced with the manifestation of its understanding.

That is the only key she has now but she has never tried it. Because she has killed so many positive thoughts that used to speak before he walked through her door, by compensating and exchanging her worth for his debts of distance, delay and distraction, she has handed herself over to a dungeon-and locked herself up. But this key, glimmers within-when it gets really dark-some are able to see it. Unfortunately others never discover it and remain holed up in that dark space of denial-rusting away in the cobwebs of lies that fail to speak revival.

The darker it gets, the more the voices that surrounded her, family and friends, become confused by the image she now presents-someone different than who they knew-but clouded behind so many lies, so many hurts, so much pains and pangs of pressure he used to slide through her practiced gaze with false words of affection, she cannot even see her true reflection-she cannot see her face-she believes only him-she trusts only his thoughts although they present her with shattered worth. And in this place, a very dangerous space, the only release is that key. Some wake up from that nightmare they do not even know they inhabit to find it, glistening in the dark corner of a dungeon they have become accustomed to its habits, the way the light shifts on the walls, the way shadows move across the floor, but this key is different they silently think-and so they try it. Watching its glistened form, its different glow-not the same as all the cobwebs and dust that surrounds it. And the more they glare, the more they see-maybe just enough to try and open the door with it.

But that is a few practiced steps-maybe one today, two tomorrow-sometimes days and months between each step because each one costs her heart so much- she has forgotten how to move in independent thought. A few make it to that door-a few less push the key through the lock-and only a twinkle walk through its passage to the other side-only a few open their eyes to the rays of the day’s sunshine.

But even this stage is where friends and family are needed to support them-as they move through that passage, as they take each step, notice their words, a silent scream for help-they may forget the words, they may not be sure how to communicate these new thoughts-but watch their movement, watch their form, and extend a helping hand to help them rediscover their worth.

She has found the stranger she once loved-she has rediscovered herself while limping through that door. Extend a helping hand to make sure she remembers this choice in its true form: a self birth of release from a cage of deception and defeat.

Boko Haram Bomb Experts Arrested in Kaduna (Photo)

Press statement as released by the Nigerian Army below..
Another catastrophe was averted in Kaduna State and other contiguous areas when troops of the Nigerian Army arrested 7 suspected Boko Haram terrorists bomb and Improvised Explosive making Devices (IEDs) specialists. The terrorists were arrested in Kaduna after painstaking surveillance and proactive intelligence operations over a period of time.

From all indications, the suspects were in Kaduna to conduct suicide bombings, kill and maim innocent citizens in the state and other surrounding areas during the Christmas period. Recall that recently in Maiduguri some of them were arrested while trying to detonate IEDs carried in food containers in public places.

The arrest of these suspects would no doubt assist in the fight against terrorism in the country, more so as the military have technically defeated the Boko Haram terrorists in the field, the terrorists have resorted to attacking soft targets through suicide bombings, IEDs and harassing attacks on isolated communities.

Therefore, the public is please requested to continue to be more vigilant and security conscious by reporting suspicious persons and their movements to security agencies. This request has become necessary because the terrorists have resorted to mingling with the public across the country after sensing the futility of their encounter with troops in the northeast.

Therefore, they adopt other methods of perpetuating violence in the society. Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman Acting Director Army Public Relations

WhatsApp which is well known as a mobile application has upgraded it's user interface into the laptop world. Making it possible for you to use the application on your laptop computer and desktop. Well according to the official blog, its a web extension which will enable users to chat on the web and with their usual application.

Official Blog Post Below..
Today, for the first time, millions of you will have the ability to use WhatsApp on your web browser. Our web client is simply an extension of your phone: the web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device -- this means all of your messages still live on your phone.
In their official blog post. Using Google Chrome was required but as a blogger who loves to find out new things, i used Mozilla Firefox and it worked quite alright. So the browser doesn't really stop it from working but if you have google chrome on your PC i suggest you make use of it.

And using the web, WhatsApp also requires your phone to be connected. I just discovered it disconnecting immediately after my phone network disconnected. take note and enjoy yourself with the new WhatsApp upgrade.

How to Use WhapsApp on Your Laptop, Desktop And Web.
